Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity-Day At The State Capitol
Today, the distinguished gentlemen of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. held its first “Day at the capitol”. The day began with a brief discussion with Representative John Gard-R, the speaker of the Assembly, who gave us his thoughts on how the State of Wisconsin can move forward and position itself in a global environment.
Next, the fraternity had the privilege to hear from Supreme Court Justice, Louis Butler, who delivered a wonderful lecture on the criminal justice system. He reiterated what I have been saying for years now, as taxpayers we have the option of paying for individuals to receive a quality education or we can pay to lock them up and keep them in jail, which on the back end is more expensive for taxpayers.
We also had the pleasure to hear from, the Minority Leader, Jim Kreuser-D, on how Democrats are moving forward with plans that will benefit low income and middle class families. He also stressed that the fraternity should pay special attention to this upcoming election and how its members should hold the candidates for Governor responsible. He stated that he believed Jim Doyle is the best candidate, I am sure that some of the other speakers would politely disagree.
Later that day, the Majority Leader, Mike Huebsch-R, enlightened the fraternity on how much the state of Wisconsin spends on Education, and discussed why Milwaukee must move from the mentality of being a second class city when compared to cities like Chicago and Minneapolis.
Finally, Representative Bob Turner-D, the Democratic Caucus Chair, visited with us and offered his office as a resource to the fraternity in its attempts to be servants of all.
It was a wonderful turnout and we look forward to holding this event every year.
Honestly Now, if you want to change the future, you must sit at the table with those who will influence it!
